Changes in lifestyle and dietry
You can prepare for your nose surgery a few weeks prior to your appointment. In principle: live healthy!
Absolutely avoid blood-thinning medication.
Hereto belong among other things Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Cumarin and Heparin. If you do have any pain you can take Paracetamol. If you are not sure regarding one of your medication, do not hesitate and ask me at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery.
Even herbal and plant-based products can have a blood-thinning effect.
Food items like garlic and ginger belong to these blood-thinning products. Dark chocolate and cinnamon essences can be blood-thinning. And, of course, alcohol. These substances have to be avoided at least 10 days prior to the surgery.
Do not smoke.
Smokers can expect significantly more postoperative complications than non-smokers. When inhaling cigarette smoke, the blood absorbs carbon monoxide and nicotine and the level of oxygen in the blood decreases. Enough oxygen, though, is important for the wound healing. In addition, nicotine affects the heart negatively, because it makes your blood pressure and pulse rise. The risks during and after the surgery are higher for smokers than for non-smokers, since an anesthesia and surgery already have a negative impact on your circulation and your oxygen supply.
Vitamins are important for healing.
Take multi-vitamin supplements. Especially vitamin C, vitamin E, iron and zinc should be included.
